'What you commit yourself to, will change what you are and make you into a completely different person.
The future conditions you, not the past. What you commit yourself to become, determines what you are more than anything that ever happened to ypu yesterday. Therefore, I ask you, "What are your commitments? Where are you going? What are you going to be? Show me somebody who hasn't decided, and I'll show you somebody who has no identity, no personality, no direection" '
- Anthony Campolo
In the previous write-up, we talk about the meaning of focus and what it can do for you.
In this article, we want to examine some salient points on focus.
The points are:
1. Innovation
2. Concentration.
3. Commitments.
4. Never live in the past.
5. Never think about difficulties.
6. Choose friends wisely.
7. Focus on yopur strength.
8. Set your priorities right.
We will now take the point one by one.
1. Innovation
Be innovative. People with focus always look for a new idea, a new method, a better way. Get new ideas of doing things, of accomplishment. A man once said that what got you where you are won't necesarily get you where you need to be. So be creative. Don't get stuck with only one way.
2. Concentration.
People with focus concentrate a bit harder and a bit longer. Don't be easily worn out.
Hank Aaron, the Hall of Fame baseball player said, 'What separates a superstar from the average ballplayer is that he concentrates just a little bit longer.'
Be clear about your objective.
Remove distractions.
Remove clutters - mental or any wise that can distract you.
Concentrate on clarity.
Concentration will now lead us to the next point. And that is,
3. Commitments.
People with focus do not make excuses, but they make commitments.
Be committed. When you're single-mindely committed to a cause, no matter what may come your way, you'll not back off. Accomplishment will be your antem.
4. Never Live In The Past.
Forget both the good old days and the bad ugly old days. Don't get stuck. Learn from the past and forge ahead. The past is gone. It brought you to where you are now. The present is here and you can use it to get to a better place tommorow.
A man on a race track cannot afford to look behind, he sets his eyes and mind on breasting the tape, the finish line is his focus.
5. Never Think About Difficulties.
In this area emulate Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
The Holy Scriptures admonishes us this way:
'We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus on whom our faith depends from start to finishh. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew will be his afterward.' - Hebrews 12:2 NLT
6. Choose Your Friends Wisely.
An adage sys, ' Show me your friend and I'll show you who you are.'
Not everybody will believe you. Not everybody will understand you.
That is why you need to choose your friends carefully.
The people you'll meet are like these - I'll start fromdown to the top::
a. The Rejecters: They are the ones who don't understand you or your divine calling.
b. The Reducers: They are the diminshers. They'll want to diminsh your goals and effort to their comfort level.
c. The Reflectors: They are the glass mirrors. Glass mirrors will reflect the rays of light or sun without adding or removing from it. These set people will reflect your energy, not adding nor subtracting from it.
d The Refiners: They are the sharpeners and clarifiers. They sharpen you and clarify your vision.
e. The Refreshers: They are the strengtheners and energisers. They strengthen your faith and energise you.
Focus will likely not allow the praises of others to get into your head and make you 'giddy', and you'll minimise the negative impact of critics.
7. Focus On Your Strength.
'Do not neglect hte spiritual gift you received through the prophecies spoken to you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.' 1Timothy 4:14 NLT
This was Apostle Paul's advice to Timothy. Timothy was advised to focus on his strengths.
Don't hide your weaknesses.
Don't behave as you don't have one.
But rather concentrate or let me say focus on your strengths.
8. Set Your Priorities Right.
Don't put the cart before the horse.
Put first things first and others will likely fall into place.
