Devotionals
I went for a walk yesterday while Betty was napping. When I came
back, she said, "How long have you been gone?" I replied, "The
whole time." I think I drive her crazy.
Pity those of another culture who have to learn the English
language. Take the word, "count." It can mean royalty; it can
mean to enumerate a quantity; it can mean to be worthy, etc. It has
many meanings.
Perhaps this is a morbid thought, but do we realize that while we
are reading this, we are all 24 hours closer to our funeral than we
were yesterday at this time? With that thought in mind, can we
reflect on those past 24 hours, and say that we made them "count"
for something positive and good -- good for God and good for our
fellowman?
We must realize that we haven't been put here just for our own
pleasure but to serve God by serving others. I believe we are
accountable for our time. Paul gave this advice to the Ephesians in
5:16, 17 (nlt), "Make the most of every opportunity for doing good
in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but try to understand
what the Lord wants you to do." He could just as well have written
that to our churches in our day. He said something similar to the
Colossian church in 4:5, "Live wisely among those who are not
Christians, and make the most of every opportunity." Our situation
is similar to those of churches in Paul's day -- we are an oasis in the
middle of the world's spiritual desert.
Let's make a concentrated effort to make this day count for God.
He's counting on us.
