The Weapon of Love
Sept 18, 2001
By: Rick L. King
Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
So often in the church, we focus on weapons being formed against us, though we fail to see that some times we are used as a weapon against someone else. When we act with words of unkindness, criticism. judgement, discouragement, and anything that is not of love, then we are a vehicle transport for a weapon. When we tear down someone else we are a weapon. When we do not forgive someone else; we are a weapon. When we speak negative in opposition to God’s word, we are a weapon. I have always wondered what it would be like, if surrounded by people that acted and spoke out of love, faith, and humility, what could actually happen. Scripture says in 1 Cor 13, that if we have not love, it will profit us nothing. It doesn’t profit others either. Love changes lives and situations.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Our greatest weapon is love. When we act out of a lack of love, we become a weapon against others. Love creates good; the lack of love creates evil. Strongholds come down when we act in love. Belief systems change when a person receives love. A stronghold is a fortress in our mind set up by a past hurt, discouragement, teaching, or belief.
God said our weapons of warfare are not carnal. That means our weapons are spiritual and not fleshly. Since God is love and God is a spirit, when we are tapped into the Lord, love will prevail. The fruit of God’s spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, meekness, and temperance (Gal 5:22-23). If we walk in the Spirit of God, the fruit has to be good. Everything that comes from God is good, not evil. We need to learn to be a positive force of love by seeking, humbling, and walking in the Spirit. In the flesh dwells no good thing
Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
1Co 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Charity means love, and it will never fail. When I met Jesus, it was because of two people that loved me no matter what I did or said. They tried one time to talk to me about Jesus. I was so proud; I cursed them, as I couldn’t accept that they knew something that I didn’t. Yet, every time I saw them together, they walked hand in hand. They even sat beside each other while driving in the car. Didn’t matter who drove, the other was beside the driver. They had been married for twenty-five years. I knew they had something that I didn’t. It was the love in action that caused me to come over that day when I was getting ready to commit suicide. They asked me to say a prayer. I can’t say that I really believed that it would help, but I said it anyway. I was gloriously saved. Love never failed. It got me, so if it worked on me, it can also work on others. We must use our greatest weapon, love them into the kingdom.
