Exceeding Abundantly Above
Oct 21, 2007

A few weeks ago, the Holy Spirit told me that He was pulling back the covers in people’s lives. This was based on Isaiah 30:1. The scripture says that we are covered with a covering but not of God’s Spirit (paraphrased). He has been doing just that even in my life. He has revealed areas in me that need changed and has been changing me. Praise God! In this article, I desire to bring a few things out that may help some people that are struggling as things just don’t seem to be going right for them.
Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
In the scripture above, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. The scripture shows us how this is accomplished. It is accomplished according to the power that works within us. The abundance comes through His power working in us. The carnal Christian finds that they have a physical, financial, or material need. In their thinking if God would meet that need, they would be fine. The problem is that they may not be taking into account that God wants much more for them. He wants exceedingly above all that we ask or think. The carnal Christian cannot see the above all as the natural man receives not the things of God since they are spiritually discerned. The Holy Spirit recently told me something that many may have a problem with if they are looking at it through carnal eyes. He said that He could heal a person any time He chose too, but why do it if by healing them they will go right back to what they were doing before. God can produce any amount of healing, money, and material things any time He chooses. God and the Spirit led Christian are looking from an eternal perspective; and the carnal Christian is looking through a temporal one. If by healing or meeting a financial need allows a person to go back and be in control or continue down a road that does not really bring them real life in Jesus, then it does not accomplish an eternal result. God allows us to go through things because He desires us to come to Him. He wants us to be intimate with Him and be filled with His power. When we are filled with His power we then start realizing the exceedingly abundantly above as it comes by the spirit not the carnal man. For too long many of us have settled for so much less than what God desires for us. Until we learn to spend time with the Holy Spirit and allow the struggles that we must go through to change and die to self, we will never realize His power working through us and realize all that He desires for us. One thing that I have learned is that what God does in me and for me far outweighs anything that I have ever desired for myself. I think of the scripture which says “the blessing of the Lord maketh rich and He adds no sorrow with it”(Proverbs 10:22). What we come up in our natural way of viewing things for our self, usually has sorrow with it. Only what God adds has no sorrow.
I am seeing many people lately that are going through many struggles and wondering why God has not answered their prayers yet. I believe the reason is that He is doing things behind the scenes. It takes a struggle and a lack for us to see that God will provide and be faithful to do what He promised. If we have everything then there is no need for God to fill it. There must be a need first. We are learning to trust that God will provide for us. Who knows what will happen in this world before Jesus comes back for us. God is preparing us to be able to stand through whatever comes our way. We are learning to be content like Paul said, with or without. The most glorious revelation I think I ever had, is that if I am in His presence, I need nothing else. It is only when I get in the carnal man that I find I seem to have a lack. Jesus wants to do the exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, but it is contingent on the power working in us. If we don’t know the Holy Ghost then we are not going to get the above all. When everything seems to fail, we usually will start praying and crying out for help. This is when we learn about God, get to know Him, and learn that we can trust Him with everything.
James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
God will and does come through. He is faithful and will never fail us. Let’s let patience have its perfect work. Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to change us and perfect what concerns us. It is for our good and His glory. If God be for us, who can be against us?
