Binky the Bat
Manuscript by: Amanda H. Williams
April 14, 2006
Scripture focus I Corinthians 13:4-8
The first manuscript is intended to be the first story in a series of Binky books. The above scripture reference will be the focus of the series.
1
Binky, a little brown bat, lived in the attic of an old house. Everyone called it the bat nursery.
2
Binky had many brothers and sisters who also lived in the nursery.
3
But…..Binky was lonely. He was different than all of the other baby bats.
4
Binky was wide awake during the day! All the other little bats were fast asleep. Binky had no one to play with him.
5
Binky scratched his head with his wing. “God, I know you made me and you love me. You wouldn’t want me to be lonely, right?”, Binky said.
6
Binky had an idea! He bopped all the other babies on the head and woke them up. Bop..Bop..Bop!
7
All of a sudden, the babies started squeaking. “Binky!! Leave us alone. We have to get our rest so we can play tonight.”
Binky pouted, “but…but..”
8
Binky hid his face with his wings and cried. But then he heard a still, quiet voice……..
“Binky.” “Who was that?” said Binky. “Is someone finally going to play with me?”
9
“Binky. It’s me. God. I made you this way for a reason. Go to the forest and help the other animals. You have special gifts.”
10
“But God, I’m just a baby bat. What special gifts do I have God?” Binky sighed.God smiled and said, “You’re my baby bat Binky.I will help you find your special gifts.”
11
Binky left the bat nursery and set out on his new adventure. He flew above the tree tops, listening very closely to all the forest sounds around him. He was scared but excited………Who would he meet first?
12
All of a sudden he heard a very soft cry way down below. “Help.Help.”
13
Binky flew down and whispered, “Who is it? Is anyone there?” “Me.Me. Over here.” But all Binky saw was a funny looking rock.
14
Then, a strange thing happened. The rock moved and wiggled. Binky gasped, “You’re no rock. You’re a turtle!” “My name is Toby and I am stuck. I flipped over early this morning and no one has heard my cry for help—until now.”
15
Binky thought. What could he do? All of a sudden he remembered something. He could echo! He used his supersonic echo power.
Luckily, Bubba Bear was nearby.
16
“Toby, I will be right back!” WHOOSH! Binky flew through the sky and found Bubba. “Bubba! Toby the Turtle has flipped over and needs your help.” Bubba took off running.
17
Soon, they found Toby again and Bubba flipped him over. “Oh, thank you Binky. Thank you Bubba. It took me days and days to come here to my special place, and when I finally made it, I tripped and flipped over. But I knew God would send someone to help me.”
18
Days and days? Wow! Binky thought how he could get anywhere lickety split. Why would Toby travel some place when it took him so long to get there? He asked Toby that very question.
19
Toby thought long and hard. “My special place is where I like to talk to God. God is patient and waits for me to get here. I love tallking to God so I keep on trying to make it no matter how long it takes me.”
20
“Gosh! Talking to God must be really important to you to travel all that way.”, Binky said. “Yeah.”, said Toby. “I love Him and He loves me. When you love someone you don’t care how long it takes, so long as you get to be with them.”
21
Binky thought about that and smiled. He said good-bye to Toby and Bubba.
22
Binky flew through the forest, looking for the next animal God wanted him to help. Binky giggled. Being special was fun!

Questions for parent/child interaction.
Read I Corinthians 13:4-8 with your children.
Why was Binky sad?
What did God tell Binky?
Does God feel the same way about you?
How did God show Toby he loved him? How did Toby show God he loved Him?
Talk about a time when you were patient or tried very hard for someone you love.
