The word “loose” is the same word that Jesus used when he told others to “loose” Lazarus from his graveclothes after he was brought forth from the tomb by being raised from the dead by Jesus.
Weymouth Translation
John 11:44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped in cloths, and his face wrapped round with a towel. "Untie him," said Jesus, "and let him go free."

(4) Loose-as pertains to John 11:44:

(1B) Graveclothes-
1) a band, either for bed-girth, or for tying up a corpse after it has been swathed in linen
(2B) Bound
1) from a derivative of 1210-bind as listed above
When we “bind”, we put “whatsoever” in chains and forbid, prohibit, or declare to be illicit the “whatsoever”. This is usually used in connection with a demon spirit. Since the word does say “whatsoever”, then this must be applicable to other things also.
The “whatsoever” can be a spirit when dealing with another person, but I am praying about how this works on our self as far as our will and desires. If this is effective in binding any ungodly desire that we may have, it may be a key to helping self get free from various desires that we may have that we can’t seem to get rid of. Usually ungodly desires are just the character or the fruit of a demonic spirit.
When we “loose”, we untie, or unwrap, set free, release from bonds, discharge from prison, let go, or do away with the spirit that has had a person bound.
Important Note: We have authority over spirits, not over people. Satan controls, God always gives free choice. We can bind the spirits in a person but to bind the person would be considered witchcraft prayers. We are to set people free, not bind them. We should not inflict our will or what we think someone else should be or do in spiritual warfare. If we will deal with the spirits, so that the person is not bound by demonic spirits, they then have a free choice to either accept Godly things or to reject them. Warfare allows a person the opportunity to see clearly and make a choice from there.
Jesus said this is the key to the kingdom of Heaven. A key “unlocks or locks a door”. This is a spiritual door that as done will bring about changes in the natural. This is our authority in the Spirit over principalities and powers. Because Jesus said that He never knew the ones that cast out demons (See Mathew 7:22-23), this would have to mean that they did it in Jesus Name, yet by the flesh, not by the leading of the Holy Spirit. As a child of God we have been given this authority, yet it must needs to be led and anointed by the Holy Spirit.
Lazarus was alive once Jesus called him forth, yet he was still bound by graveclothes (those things that wraps a person that is dead for burial). He was alive, yet he still was bound by death. Jesus told others to loose him and let him go free. This is our authority to bind and loose. Jesus was telling us to use the keys of the kingdom and set at liberty them that were bound.
Another note is that just dealing with the spirit will not always set a person free. They need to see and gain some knowledge of the fact that a spirit is present and what they must or must not do to keep the door closed so that the spirit will not return. Without them gaining some knowledge, teaching or understanding they possibly could end up with seven other spirits which will make them worse than they were before they had the spirit cast out.(see Mathew 12:43-45).
What Opens the Door?
1. sin
2. disobedience
3. lack of knowledge of what the Word of God says is truth
4. unwillingness to follow the truth
Sin-An Open Door
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
When we sin, we enter into the devils camp. We know this as:
1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus tells us that He forgives us when we ask, yet, what about the death that came upon us? Since the wages of sin is death, then it is possible to take on a spirit of death once we sin, as we gave the devil legal ground. Jesus forgives the act of sin, yet at times we must still deal with the wages of our sin, a spirit of death.
John 10:
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they
might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Even though we have received forgiveness from our sin, sometimes we still have not entered into life abundant. The devil kills, steals and destroys. If this is going on then we most certainly are not living in life abundant. The word “abundant” means beyond measure or exceedingly abundantly above. We think maybe that a spirit of death could never have a hold over us, yet if we are not experiencing life abundant, it is possible. Revelation by the Holy Spirit would need to come to know if this was a root source of our snares of prevention. Let’s look at what David in the psalms had to say.
Psalms 18:
4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.
David had a fear of man. Fear takes away love, power, and our sound mind. When fear is in control we are snared.
David was physically alive or he could not have written this. He was alive yet the sorrows of death were upon him because of his fear and the snares of death prevented him. David was bound by a spirit of death. Our wages or payment for our sin is death, not life. David’s sin was apparently fear of man which caused him to battle with a spirit of death. When we are walking in fear, we cannot walk in faith. Everything that is not of faith, is sin.
Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
Can we see now the open door that we all give to the enemy? When we are not walking by faith, we are walking in sin. Sin leaves an open door for the enemy to put upon us a spirit of death.
We are told that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Also, if any man say that he has not sinned, we make God a liar.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Why Jesus Came
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Isaiah 42:7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Jesus in us still desires to do the same thing; set people free that they may enter into life abundant {beyond measure, exceedingly abundantly above all that they may ask or think (Ephesians 3:20) (John 10:10)}. This is accomplished by our using the authority in the spirit to bind the spirits and to loose people from the spiritual graveclothes of death so that they will be set free to follow and do whatever the Lord would have them to do.
Scripture does say however that there must first be a willing mind. If a person wants the sin or the spirit, it is rather useless to try to deal with it. If the person is crying out to be set free then spiritual warfare is appropriate. Spiritual warfare needs to be led of the Holy Spirit, not our own desire or will.
