Jesus is the Word made flesh! How many born again believers know this? How many of you know that his words give eternal life? How many of you know that his word holds all things together? The call of his voice, his word raised the dead! His words pricked men's hearts.
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us." John 1:14
"Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power." Hebrews 1:3
"Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life." John 6:68
"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35
With Jesus, his word(s) have absolute power! In John 11:43, he said this to Lazarus who had been dead for 4 days, "Lazarus, come forth." Notice also that it was not anything that Jesus had done that the Pharisees and Sadducees wanted to kill Jesus, but because of his words, that he SAID he was God or made himself to be God: "I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God." John 10:31-33
Jesus is our shepherd, and by his voice we hear him and follow him. "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." And look at this verse from John 10:28 where Jesus says, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them from my hand." Only God can give eternal life, therefore if Jesus said he gives eternal life to the sheep, then he is God!
In ALL of John's writings, the Gospel of John, his 3 letters and Revelation, the Apostle testifies that Jesus is the Word of life. Look at Revelation 19:13, "And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God." We should do well to listen to Jesus' words, no matter how harsh or aggressive they may seem at times when he is speaking to the religious leaders and crowds. His words are soothing and comforting as well. Providing hope in him and a desire for a personal relationship with each of us as our Saviour, Lord and God!
God Bless!
