Faith
Which is more important: faith or truth? Many of us Christians have faith as our foundation, as opposed to truth; and that’s why our faith falters so easily and we’re not able live out 1 Peter 3:15. I read an article recently that basically said (and I summarize), “Faith without truth is a fantasy and if we can’t defend truth, then the “father of lies” will prevail in our individual lives and missions.”
An analogy that is used in the book of James is that faith is the root and works are the fruit. If we take that one step further, we can say truth is the soil in which the “tree of life” grows. Now, if we trust the soil is fertile just because someone told us it was, but we haven’t tested it ourselves, we will have some real issues when root rot or crop failure sets in. But on the flip side, if we know without a doubt, through our own examination, that this “soil” on which we stand is rich and fertile; then it really doesn’t take a whole lot of faith to produce huge, beautiful, God-glorifying fruit (remember the mustard seed?)
I don’t want to have faith in faith, or faith in what some pastor told me, or faith in what mama and daddy have told me. I want a faith that’s personal, real, and loud because it’s based on my own validation. I’ve been doing a lot of research and self-examination lately regarding whether this truth I believe is true; and if it is, why am I not more passionate and bold about sharing it with those who don’t know it? Truth is truth, whether or not I believe it; but if it is confirmed in my heart, mind and soul, then I should be more willing to apply it wholeheartedly.
Ask God to confirm His truth in your life, so that your faith is your faith. Then you will live wholeheartedly the faith you profess.
