Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. I Peter 5:7
Perhaps you’ve heard the catchy slogan, Let Go and Let God! Have you ever had someone tell you this and you just wanted to give him or her a good slap? (just being honest) Sometimes it seems there are those who have mastered the technique of simply letting go, while the rest of us are still letting go over and over again.
I’ve been guilty of telling others to simply let go and let God, and often it is easy for me to say because I am not in their shoes or going through the situation on a personal level. Perhaps I’ve walked the same path, but it is always easier to administer instruction when you’ve already learned through trial and error, when you are on the other side!
When I stop and think back over trials I’ve been through or burdens I’ve carried, and if I am brutally honest with myself, there were many occasions when I had to let go, and then let go, and then let go again! You see our nature is to take things to the altar and then pick it up and carry it with us when we go, only to bring it back again!
So how are we able to really let go and let God have complete control? PRACTICE! God does not want us to be burdened down He wants to carry the load! He wants us to be hidden in His secret place (Psalms 91:1), and experiencing peace that simply blows us away!
If you are still carrying the load and you can’t seem to let it go I would like to encourage you, that through prayer and perseverance and being brutally honest with God, you will find that place where you can let it go, but it requires prayer and a desire to want to let it go (because there are those who have grown accustomed to the weight and without it would not know what to do).
Once, not long ago I was burdened down with my daughter and her lifestyle! I’d prayed for months, days and hours on end, and still it seemed I was carrying this heavy load! I will never forget the moment I broke through. I had been in her room praying and it was as if something clicked in my heart; God really wanted me to experience peace and fully know that He had His hand on her! When I walked out of her room, I knew I had laid her on the altar and left her there. Of course you know who decided to remind me of what I’d done. It was then that I faced a choice – pick her back up or leave her there! I chose to leave her – I chose to let go and let God! The enemy didn’t stop reminding me and every once in a while I’d start to pick her back up, but would say (out loud) NO, I LET HER GO! It took me reminding myself, quoting scripture and persevering!
Now, if you happen to be one of those who is quick to say, just let go and let God, I admonish you today to think back to your own trials! Maybe you have found the secret place and you are able to let go, but it didn’t happen over night, did it? That person who has come to you may need to hear let go, and then let go and keep letting go until you can finally really let it go! Pray with them! Guide them through the Word of God and offer encouragement! We each have to experience a breakthrough in our own life and sometimes are quick responses may come across as self-righteous!
Whatever you are carrying today, my friend, our God wants to carry the burden for you! He has promised to be with us in the storm and the fire and the raging seas! He has never left us or forsaken us! Don’t be afraid to cry out to God and let Him know you want to let go and you need wisdom as to how to do it! Don’t be worry about telling Him you are afraid of letting go cause you might lose control! You see, when we are in this working relationship with God, we can be honest and one day you will be able to say, I REALLY LET GO!
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your gentleness and patience with us! We know it must be exasperating to see us carrying around burdens that we could simply let go and let You have, nevertheless, you patiently work with us and guide us to the secret place! It is here that we can experience peace! Lord, there are many today who have been told to let go and let God, but they have no idea how to do this! They’ve carried burdens for so long it seems normal! Today we ask that You touch these lives in a special way! Somehow direct them and guide them, send someone across their path today to tell them You want to carry the burden!
We humbly ask in Jesus Name, AMEN
