Poetry
My mind soars as my body
toils in this prison
steel and concrete.
It ponders over who
I am and
what I am doing here.
I think to myself
"I am but one in
a long line of many,
serving a sentence
for a crime committed
long ago. It was committed
by one whose bones
have long since
turned to dust,
and yet I have been
found guilty, sentenced to
a life of hard labor, for a
crime I did not commit,
though I am truly
guilty of many worse crimes,
so justice has been served.
Do not get me wrong, I am grateful for my prison, for it has
been used to give substenance
to my body by One who loves
me. He loves me though I am guilty
for the crime committed long
ago, and many others.
I think back through the ages;
and I see through the eyes
of the original one.
I long for the way things were,
when we were innocent,
and walked with our
Maker daily. My Maker has come
to me now
and said "I will take
your guilt upon
myself; accept My sacrifice
and forgiveness,
let us be brothers,
the way it was before."
and I can only say "Yes, Lord Jesus."
