What is an eight letter word that has only one letter? Answer: an
envelope. That was sent to me by Ryan, an eighth grader in Mrs.
Sheffield's class at St. Rita Catholic School in Dallas Texas.
Thanks, Ryan. Now 1600 people know your joke.
Today's snailmail brought me a large envelope filled with a class
picture and really neat hand written notes by Mrs. Sheffield's
eigth grade students. I have to tell you that I got choked up as I
read them. The notes were all "thank you" notes for daily
E-Cheer. This Godly teacher ends each class day by reading that
day's E-Cheer to the class after which they discuss it. I wish I
could share all the letters with you.
Those of you who think today's kids are all on a fast track toward
Hell need to spend the last 15 minutes of just one day in Mrs.
Sheffield's class and observe these beautiful children. I thank
God for Mrs. Sheffield and all the other Godly teachers out there
who are standing in the gap and taking a stand for Jesus Christ.
Now this is just for Mrs. Sheffield and her class. The rest of you
feel free to listen. You'll never know how much encouragement
your colorful and thoughtful notes brought to me. Sometimes it's
lonely sitting here at the keyboard, but now that I have your
picture, I can imagine that your whole class is hiding right behind
my screen where I can talk directly to you.
Someday, some of you will be teachers like Mrs. Sheffield with a
wonderful opportunity for helping young lives like you get a good
start in life. Can you imagine how pleased God will be when He
sees your dedication in encouraging others.
Encouraging others is one of the most important jobs given to
Christians. Mrs. Sheffield, God must love you a lot to give you
such a neat group of children for you to encourage and mold into
wonderful lives.
Be uplifted by these wonderful words from Romans 12:8 (nlt), If
your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share
it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the
responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing
kindness to others, do it gladly." Mrs. Sheffield is doing her part.
What about the rest of us?
