Children
We decided to attend a new church on Sunday. Of course we were late. I have three little girls that all have thick hair. By the time I finish getting them dressed and combing their hair it is time to get myself ready. Then, of course, when I am dressed someone needs re-dressing or re-combing.
We rush in to find a seat and try not to attract to much attention. The preacher’s sermon this Sunday was entitled “Get into the closet” He went on to say that he did not mean a literal closet but that you needed to spend some quality time alone with God. My girls were restless and I really didn’t think that they were paying close attention to the service.
Once returning home, the girls-Raven (8), Errin (6) and Madison (3) all disappeared upstairs. I just assumed that they were playing the video game or with their dolls or coloring so I started to cook dinner. Just a few minutes later, my oldest daughter Raven appears (she is the mother of the group). She said, “Okay, I just got out of the closet and now Errin is in there and when she comes out I told Madison to get in there.
Kids take things so literally. Although the pastor said this does not mean you have to literally get into the closet but you need to get alone with God sometimes. Most adults-even though we need to-do immediately leave church and put what we heard into action. There are many that will say “I’ll do better tomorrow” But kids take things to heart. This must be why Christ wants us to have the heart of a child. Pure, innocent and eager to please.
