Leadership
Small is Huge
1 Samuel 15:17
So Samuel said, when you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel?
Ever felt little before? I’m not talking about standing up next to Shaq or Ming on the court; neither am I talking about going to the gym and having Mr. Campus Universe (and he knows it) working out next to you.... with his huge buddies spotting him....at the exact same time your heart throb glides in the gym, and your busting blood vessels to get the bar off your chest; neither am I talking about when your homecoming date backed out, and your friends are all cruising up in they’re rented HUMMERS and LIMO', with the red carpet laid out for photos, and your getting out of your 88 rust bucket that you tried to hide a block away; neither am I talking about how everyone else seems to get promoted to they’re own office, (with the golf picture of course on the wall), and your still sorting mail in the little cubical next to grandma Bertha.
By the way, the above examples are my real life experiences. I’ve learned, if you can’t hide your skeletons, maybe you should dance with them! Stay with me! I want to show you something powerful that happens when you start getting big in your own eyes.
#1 Samuel asked Saul, “Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the Lord.”1 Sam 15:19 God told Saul to kill every living thing! Saul thought God needed a little help, and did just the opposite by keeping alive the best sheep and ox. Are you keeping alive what God has repeatedly asked you to kill in your life? Ambition, selfishness, greed, covetousness Insecurity, Exaggeration…PRIDE! If God says CUT THE BULL, THEN CUT THE BULL! No Pun Intended
#2 Samuel states, “Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being King.” 1 Sam 15:23 God called Saul’s good intentions to sacrifice the sheep and ox later, witchcraft and idolatry! WOW! This is a dangerous verse! Why? How many times has God impressed upon your heart to do something particular, and you chose to do it another way! Careful friends, obedience is greater then sacrifice. Promotion comes to those who obey.
Always has, always will! Stay little in your own eyes and God will make you big in HIS! It’s difficult to trip and stumble when you’re small, and on your knees. Just a thought.
