Poetry
He laid aside His priestly robes
Stepped into common man;
To pour out love through sacrifice
For all He said “I can.”
So to a dark and sinful world
God sent His only Son;
The purpose was rejection, so
All men could then be won.
And to a world deserving death
The King of Glory came;
To show His love with outstretched arms
God’s Innocence took blame.
His body bruised and battered
His flesh was ripped and torn;
What kind of love endures such pain
For those that sin had born?
And who can fathom such great love
That sentenced Him to die?
To take the place of fallen man
How great the Sacrifice!
For sinless God became my sin
His Purity my shame;
Upon His head a crown of thorns
A crown which bore my name.
A gentle hand received my nail
He gladly took my place;
And through this cruelty of death
He looked upon my face.
“For you My child, I do lay down
My life so you might live;
Yet even though you know Me not
My life I freely give.”
“I knew the price I’d have to pay
I counted every cost;
But herein lies the gift of love
My sheep I have not lost.”
The God of Heaven called my name
The day that Jesus died;
How great His love to cover me
In willing Sacrifice!
