The driver jumped from his car seat, arms waving! What was this man doing? Road rage? Surely not!
Minutes earlier, an approaching vehicle appeared on Kyle's side of the road, the driver steering straight at him, forcing the teen to slow his vehicle down, almost to a stop.
Kyle thought the inevitable, almost sure of a crash, he flinched and closed his eyes.
The man suddenly turned his car away at the last second, flying by the teen, their front bumpers missing by inches.
The erratic driver made a U turn, returned and followed the boy, only to pass, cut him off, and block the road up ahead, parking sideways in a narrow turn.
Forced to stop his car this time, Kyle watched as the man jumped from the car, and ran toward him.
Before Kyle could react, the man pulled open his unlocked door, swinging a fist at his face.
The uninvited arm missed, but Kyle soon found himself on the ground, that same arm grabbing him by the neck, the fist pounding his face.
Kyle blocked some of the blows, slipping in a few defensive moves as the two struggled on the pavement.
Two women in a vehicle nearby witnessed the assault, realizing the seriousness of the situation, they called 911.
Driving toward the scene hoping to be a diversion until the police arrived, one of the women jotted down the man's license plate number.
Suddenly, the man rose up, ran and jumped into his car, but not before shoving Kyle to the ground, as he twisted Kyle's sunglasses into pieces.
Standing, Kyle hurried to his car and called 911; unaware the police were already on their way.
Later, at the police station as Kyle filed his report, the angry man cruised by in his car, only to leave once he saw the same two women from the scene standing by the building.
The blood still in his mouth, his lips swollen from the blows from the stranger, he touched the bruise on his cheek and tossed God some questions.
Living in a rural area, which is usually quiet and uneventful, the teen replayed the incident over and over again in his mind, unable to find any reasonable answer to why he was the target of this man's anger.
The police told Kyle his attacker had a record of violence and would be arrested, sadly a fate brought on by this man's own actions.
Kyle's life was altered, the pain obvious by the expression on his face.
The next day, after a restless night of sleep, Kyle told someone he figured God had a reason for what happened and concluded this idea, "God is all knowing and all powerful and just maybe, the Lord protected someone else -- a person just around the bend!"
