OK, you know the story of Jonah right? God calls him, He
runs, God finds him, He goes to Ninevah. Anyway, they
repent! I know it too, in and out, I have used references
Ninevah being the place in which God restores and a place of
encouragement. But have you read Nahum?T his book is also
about Ninevah, but boy it isn't about favor or repentance.
It's about defilement and running as far as you can from
There was even a scripture where God raises their garment
over their head to expose their nakedness. Comical, yes,
but heart wrenching as well. These people were given a
chance, God even sent one of His own to tell them to get it
right! They did for a brief time and then ran, ran, ran.
So even when we are hit over the head with the truth we can
get caught up in "us" and miss out entirely. Ugh! The last
verse says "who has not felt your endless cruelty"
Amazing ....read Jonah & Nahum and reflect on how God has an
earnest passion to save His children, but we also can self
destruct. The fear of God is the first step to Wisdom!
