12 TIPS ON CHURCH GROWTH!
Having pioneered several Churches and now totally focused on missionary work; and also having liaised, interrelated with several ministers, ministries and denominations, I'm persuaded to share these few summarized suggestions from my heart concerning God's precious and auspicious ministry. Ephesians 4:11-16.
1) CORPORATE PRAYING!
Acts 4.24,31.
Hearing the report, the disciples in one united mind, raised their voices together in prayer to God….
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
The force and corporate benefits of UNITED praying are matchless! Engage everyone in attendance at the worship service in corporate, effectual, fervent praying before and/or during each service. In addition to creating an anointed atmosphere for that service, it would strengthen, equip and make your people individually prayerful and powerful and so build a very powerful local Church body and enthusiastic people of faith. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are stirred up and a glorious revival breaks forth in the Church! Add fasting occasionally for greater results.
2) COMMUNICATION AND YOUR ENVIRONMENT.
Ensure the Church premises are clean, and indoors warm, neat and friendly. A big, clean, beautiful sign board out there will not only indicate a clear direction to and location of your Church, but a powerful statement of faith that this Church is active and in business for the Lord. While word of mouth publicity is one of the best, most effective and reliable; endeavor to use other forms too. The Holy Spirit is more likely to impress upon people about visiting your Church through some form of publicity you have out there that they see. Create awareness, let your community know what you're doing to bless them as ministers of God.
3) THE THREE PILLARS.
Three powerful groups are very necessary to carry, empower and boost your ministry, working in harmony with other vital groups. Every group that serves a need in the Church is important. The Prayer, Praise/Worship and Evangelism teams or groups. Engaging everyone in corporate intercession before each service will be the way and place to impart the spirit of grace and supplication and also define those to be in those two strategic and fundamental groups. Invest in a powerful praise/worship team that prepares people to receive from God. These three are the pillars of the ministry. Raise highly dedicated, passionate and spiritually mature, faithful leaders to lead these teams. You're setting the stage for a great revival.
4) LET PEOPLE PARTICIPATE.
The greatest challenge in any Church is the ability to retain and manage the guests that flow in and out of the Church week after week. If a Church could retain even a guest per week, that would become 52 members, strong and established at the end of the year! In any group, the people that will be faithful, reliable, punctual, passionate and positively influential are those with responsibilities. Participants, and not mere spectators. Responsibility is the anchor that helps control the unbelievable and appalling rate of Church membership turnover! As much as possible, engage every current member in some duty or task that suits their gifts, talent or interests IN THE SPIRIT OF LOVE. And take out time to regularly teach, inspire and train these leaders to be knowledgeable of scriptural principles, enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated enough to influence every single new person who steps into the Church. Every guest will immediately sense and experience love, dedication, commitment, joy, enthusiasm, faith and acceptance. This would strengthen, establish and multiply a congregation exponentially and consistently.
5) PUNCTUALITY.
Take punctuality very seriously. That's the first, most important sign that we mean business for the Lord and so it becomes an established standard in the ministry. Commence the Service at the exact time you are on the program. Don't wait for those who love to come late. Soon, everyone will follow your good leadership. And unless led by the Holy Spirit, maintain your closing time for your services. Do all the Holy Spirit lays on your heart to bless and build God's people. The Holy Spirit owns and runs the Church Services and the ministry.
6) SPECIAL MEETINGS.
Have 3 or more days or evenings set out for prayer revivals and healing meetings. Do it by faith in God's Word. Such meetings would strengthen and revive people's personal prayer life and provide them the opportunity and privilege of inviting the sick, afflicted and needy. This will also create awareness and healthy, godly publicity for the ministry, leading to great increase in attendance, membership and Christian influence in your community. As you grow and increase in this, you could rent the City Hall and other larger venues and take the community for Jesus Christ!
7) SPECIALIZE THROUGH YOUR MAJOR GIFT!
Identify your most prominent gift or area of specialization in your ministry and endeavor to focus. In this age of widespread, serious needs, pain, diseases, depression and heartbreaking burdens, develop your most prominent gift to reach people for the Lord Jesus Christ. Initiate special revival meetings, crusades, conferences, outreaches to reach that segment of need you're gifted to address. This focus would boost and establish your ministry skills rapidly with incredible publicity, influence and effectiveness.
8) MINISTRY IS A DIVINE HOSPITAL!
Two factors make the Church or ministry a divine hospital and school as it's designed to be.
a) SPIRITUAL POWER GENERATION.
Luke 5:16; 18:1.
But Jesus Christ often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. One day Jesus Christ told His disciples a story to show they should always pray and never give up.
The power of God required to effect supernatural transformation such as salvation, healing, deliverance, miracles and blessings, is generated how Jesus Christ did it, through regular, personal, fervent intercession and prayer!
b) THE WORD THAT RENEWS AND TRANSFORMS.
2 Timothy 2.15.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
The word and information we share should be biblical, characteristic of the Good News to heal, save, encourage, correct, educate and transform people.
For a single message of say 45 minutes on a Sunday morning, endeavor to spend days and nights generating God's power and grace through intensive, prolonged intercession and study. Research and refine your message to make it fresh, powerful, informative and anointed enough to destroy yokes and burdens. The sick, afflicted and oppressed should be healed, and people informed enough to excel over today's challenges and circumstances, God's way!
9) MINISTRY IS A DIVINE SCHOOL!
The Church is a divine school, a place where God wants His people taught, equipped and deployed to succeed in the natural world through godly, biblical principles which are infallible, because they are backed by the Holy Spirit. When the world which is full of hate, envy, strife, pain and poverty sees God's people walking in love, peace, freedom and success in every area, they're persuaded to follow the saints to Jesus Christ. Take time to research on and teach or preach on current pressing issues and challenges people deal with daily, using biblical success principles. Topics like the blessing of making godly friends, generosity, investing wisely, wise financial management, great parenting, diligence, time management, respect for elders and authority, faith exercise, divine protection and deliverance, good health, good eating habits and hygiene, stress management, attitude adjustment, God's call, excellence etc. With the anointing of God backing us, people come to Church and learn something benefiting and also get delivered and blessed every single time. They would confidently and gladly invite their friends, peers, colleagues and family.
10) FEED GOD'S SHEEP.
John.21:15.
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these? Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."
Fight, attack and cast out devils. But pray for, and not against people. Bless, don't curse! Resist the temptation to spend the precious time of your congregation criticizing or running down other ministries, political groups or institutions. This creates suspicion, strife and bitterness in their hearts instead of the blessing we're sent to minister. Stay focused, feed God's sheep, they will keep returning, bringing other hungry, afflicted and needy sheep with them for God to heal, deliver and bless. Your ministry is a school and divine hospital. Let the Holy Spirit teach and let the Lord heal through your ministry.
Acts.6:4.
and we (ministers) will give our focused attention to our assigned task of prayer and the ministry of the word."
11) MENTOR SHIP.
Prayerfully choose at least a mentor who you respect and trust and then humble yourself to get close, learn, be corrected and build a strong bond and very cordial relationship. A good mentor will guide you through distractions, weakness, smallness, mediocrity into strength, stability and greatness through exposure and godly leadership.
12) OUR BOUNDLESS MINISTRY.
The only God accepted excuse for a small Church and ministry is when everyone in our community attends our Church and it's still small! But then we need to expand through branches, the print and every other available media all over our State, Nation and the world!
Matthew 28:19,20.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Let's keep praying for ministers, ministries and the body of Christ.
