Poetry
I awoke this morning, and before my feet could come nigh the floor.
My mind was immediately assaulted by problems for which I have not the cure.
How can I ever get away, for I don’t have minutes to re-group in between?
It is only seconds that I have to gather my strength against what was by me unforeseen.
This does not go away as the day progresses, but rather it increases and it only seeks my demise.
At times I muster the strength to fight, but find it not sufficient, and must resort to my Lord in the skies.
This is the only time I find I can win for there are things that overtake us that we cannot face alone.
The Lord has promised to be my present help, so why would I ever face these battles on my own?
I don’t have the answer as yet, why a man would willingly face what he knows he cannot win.
Yet not one problem has ever grappled with me that was not a direct effect of my own sin.
There is no escape, there is no discharge, for I joined this battle, and my Captain does not know or allow retreat.
So I ask myself the question, why do I so often go into these continual mind battles knowing on my own I will meet defeat?
It must be that I think more highly of myself than I should not seeking the Lord who has the power to overcome.
My assaults are not too large for him yet day after day I leave in the feeble strength I call my own.
When I don’t give the Lord his rightful place, for he will not be second to me, he will sit on the throne or not at all.
I must let him be Lord over every part of my life, not keeping any hidden areas, for I’ve had an effectual call.
I realize that by putting my thoughts on paper, that they expose the many weaknesses and failures I call my own.
My intent is to help someone else miss the giant pitfalls, cracks in the road, jagged rocks I’ve encountered on my way home.
This I know, that God is for me. I witness this on a daily basis as I stumble he picks me back up and shows me why I fell.
But then if I’m not careful I will repeat the process the very next day being knocked down again, but not yet hearing the bell.
If you’re reading this, I implore you to every day put the Lord on the throne of your life and let nothing hinder.
For he knows the way you face each day, treacherous though it may be, you will find him to be gentle, and tender.
Let every morning start with words similar to these. King of my life I crown thee now, help me for I know not the way.
But you know the path, and the best way through so control my mind, my thoughts, and guide me so I can glorify you this day.
