Poetry
For the most part my Christian life has been an easy journey, blessed with many smiles.
My life has been a very pleasant and satisfying life. It was also a life with very few trials.
Depravity shows up in every aspect of life and we become complacent with receiving blessings from a benevolent master.
To the point you almost expect tomorrow to hold glad tidings, though all around us are examples of those facing disaster.
I never consciously set out to take my comfortable life for granted. But day after comfortable day became a routine.
Outside of a few physical inconveniences, some minor persecutions that is about the worst I had ever seen.
The Lord however has purposed to teach his children, training them to keep their affections set on things above.
He establishes providential events to join us in this life, as he tutors and instructs us in perfect love.
Depending on each individual’s malleability to training, these providential events may be small, or can be very large.
The bible tells us that we undergo manifold temptations if need be, so in a sense we choose our lot and there is no discharge.
Judgment is the Lords strange work, he doesn’t afflict us willingly. We are dull and miss earlier opportunities for grace.
He will continue working providence until we ultimately yield, for he has purposed for us to finish our race.
So far this paints a perfect picture of my life for I missed his gentle admonishments. Then he sent a trial that is most severe.
I never purposed to ignore his tender rebukes, his chastenings I’d not outwardly refute, obviously though I was slow to hear.
The Lord then in love placed me in a storm severe enough to awaken my dull senses, and put me listening intently to his voice.
He has set out to teach me in mercy, and for the many manifestations of his perfections to me I do therein greatly rejoice.
What a dull child I was, but the Lord never wavered in his commitment to train and teach me his most perfect way.
I would not trade the blessing of his love in teaching me these past years for the reversal of this trial is all I can say.
For now his oft stumbling child is much wiser than I was before, but all this has come with scars, and much cost.
I want my every step to be ordered by the Lord, I don’t want to take any without him lest I lose my way and get lost.
