Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Year of the Blessing…
Sight and Insight…
Shalom!
“As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (John 9:1–3, ESV)
Over the past couple of weeks this morning’s scripture has taken on a new meaning. Not that I was blind but because over the years my eyesight had slowly diminished affecting my vision. Yesterday and eye surgeon removed a cataract from my right eye, 2 weeks ago it was the left eye. Because I have membranes growing on both retinas we wait to see if another eye surgeon thinks they need to be removed.
From what I’ve learned from my own experience with diminished vision there is are uncanny parallels between our eyesight and insight into to life. Unfortunately we live in a negative impacting world, and over time just like cataracts it will cloud our vision of the positive side of our lives. It wasn’t meant to be that way but it has become what it has become, but the good news is it doesn’t need to be that way. In this morning’s scripture the disciples are seeking a reason for the man’s blindness (diminished eyesight), basically Jesus’ response was, “Don’t worry about the reason instead look to God and the blessings he wants to give you.
Paul tells us what happens to our insight when we look to God instead of living in the negativities that abound. “It is the same with us. Now we see a dim reflection, as if we were looking into a mirror, but then we shall see clearly. Now I know only a part, but then I will know fully, as God has known me.” (1 Corinthians 13:12, NCV)
Jesus, let us look at life through the lens of your eyes!
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah.”
GRACE and PEACE,
Gary
