Psalm:34:18 - "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit".
One of the bible characters that have been an encouragement to me is Hannah, wife of Elkanah. She went through a very difficult time; being mocked by Elkanah’s other wife over and over again for not being able to bear Children. I can understand how much pain she would have carried with her for a long time and being continuously mocked by her rival. But her husband would comfort her saying, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?”
Then one day, Hannah went to the Temple of the Lord at Shiloh, and in her deep anguish she prayed to the Lord weeping with so much agony. She made a vow to the Lord saying, Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” – 1 Samuel: 1:11. As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli the priest observed her mouth. Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine”. Hannah replied saying, “Not so lord” “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief”. Eli answered “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him”. – 1 Samuel: 1:12-17.
In the course of time, the Lord opened Hannah’s womb and she became pregnant. She gave birth to a son and named him Samuel saying “Because I asked the Lord for him”.
Dear Friend, we all go through a situation in life where we are deprived of having few things. I wouldn’t put it under the category “Deprived” but “Lord’s timing”. The Lord is not deaf to our prayers; He hears our prayers and knows our deep anguish. We might be waiting for a miracle in our lives it could be marriage, debts to be met, a good job, appraisal/promotion at work, want to have a child, healing and the list can go on. God is not blind or deaf to our tears; He knows all that we are going through. He will open the flood gates of heavens and gives us all that He has in store. Be confident in the Lord and know He will give you the desires of your heart. Make a vow to the Lord to follow His steps, give Him praise, and glorify Him for answering your prayers. We live a world where we do not know what is happening around us and there’s only one person who gives us the assurance that He will give us our desires and guide us. In our grief the Lord will give us relief.
Dear Abba Father in Heaven,
Thank You for this day and we thank You for Your favour in our lives. Lord, open doors that no man can close and make our crooked paths straight. Be our shield and give us relief in our times of grief. Help us to feel Your presence all throughout our life. In Jesus name. Amen.
God bless you.
