The lives will live are about relationships and expectations. It is about what we are willing to accept, to believe and to believe. Ultimately, it all comes down to our faith. All of these come together when we are faced with a challenge.
The Centurion was a man of great power, but he was powerless when it came to the healing of his child. Jesus had expectations as well. He wanted people to believe in him first, and his miracles second. I often marvel at the Centurion’s faith, but wonder if I could have done the same. I’m sure I would have asked Jesus to come by the house for a while.
There are a lot of different outcomes that could have come out of this story. The most important outcome is a Centurion who acknowledged Christ for who He is, and never allowed his faith to be disrupted by anything. A faith that did not say do it, his faith only said that He could.
The next time that you are faced with struggles on all sides. The next time we feel as if our prayers are only making it as high as our bedroom ceiling. The next time we are ready to throw in our towels which are still dirty from the last time we threw them in, don’t invite Jesus to your house, and invite Him to the problem. Don’t invite Jesus to listen, invite Him to speak.
God, thank you for blessing our faith and for speaking miracles to our circumstances. Thank you for being where you are, even while you tend to our needs. In Jesus name: Amen
Stephen Thomas is a husband, father and child of God
