When Things are Quiet
By Dani Nash
Where do I begin? When I think about the word quiet, it may seem like I would define it as tranquil, serene; silent. But, how I describe or define it doesn’t necessarily match up with how I feel, inwardly.
My mind has a tendency to race back and forth with troubles and worries that I have no control over. Then, I become emotionally drained. When I have a great deal of time on my hands, I mentally twiddle the seconds away, staying fixated on what I cannot change.
Many people would look at my descriptive situation as being lazy or being too complicated and would give me their easy solution to my problem, sympathically- speaking. I try hard to become productive. Some days are easy and others are hard. On the easier days I turn to writing. And I use it as my way of escape or an opportunity to put my thoughts in to good use or transport my mental wonderland to a place full of smiles and adventure.
Sometimes, I ask myself, “Why would God make me this way?” (As I look up to the big, beautiful sky and ponder the answer to such a profoundly, thought-provoking question.) The answer is actually simple. . .
Because, He is God. The day He created the world in all its complexity and splendor, He called it good.
I had the wonderful opportunity to vacation in Hawaii several years ago. As I think back to that beautiful moment, looking out across the rippling hues of the ocean that spanned the blending hues from turquoise to midnight blue, I couldn’t help but become overwhelmed with the majestic beauty that was before me. And God created it all--of what my eyes could take in—because it was His desire.
To be still and know that God is who He is brings freedom to my chaotic mind and tranquility to my soul that soon relaxes all of the worry that enters as thoughts. But once I focus on what truly matters, like how He has blessed me to see another day; write another sentence – all of those worrisome moments become a fading memory.
I thank God for His holy word. It speaks to my spirit in ways that are unexplainable. The transformation that happens in me is indescribable. His word is my very much needed breath that allows me to live, move and have my being.
It’s His written word that inspires me to write and share with others. God is all the inspiration I need to pick up a pen and clear my thoughts and go to that place that becomes quiet from within…
