Let our sorrow in loss be tempered by the joy of the gain of another's victory. And may our joy in victory be tempered by the loser's sorrow. By these our hearts are broadened and made less vulnerable to the shifting of circumstance. Note that David the psalmist did not pray, "Restore to me the joy of MY salvation" but rather, "Restore to me the joy of THY salvation." If it's my salvation then it's so easy to lose, along with the joy.
Since it's His salvation we are secure in it and have been granted the privilege of enjoying and sharing it and benefiting from it. We are the grateful STEWARDS of a joy and a salvation that belongs to Another. Let us handle them then with the due awe and reverence. For the Lord also IS our salvation (Psalm 27) and our joy.
