Everyone keeps asking God for long life and I keep asking what we really want to do with the long life. God is not stupid to have timed our body.
It doesn’t matter how long you live, what matters is how effective. Methuselah lasted for 969 years and all that was recorded about him is that he had other sons and daughters and died. Jesus lasted for 33 and half years and no book in the whole world could contain the miracles he performed in 3 years. As a matter of fact, it was his favorite student (John) that said so.
Most of the people who lived effectively didn't last too long. It is recorded in history that Enoch walked with God and yet his father (Jared) and his son (Methuselah) lasted longer than him, as a matter of fact, God took him.
The meaning of life is purpose. I use to think that death is the greatest tragedy until I actually understood the purpose for life itself. The tragedy is not death but life without the original purpose of existence. “Death means nothing when life has served its purpose”. As a matter of fact, the only reason why death sounds so dreadful is just because we have the capacity to feel. Death causes a lot of bad feelings for the living but beyond that, nothing more. What matters is not how long you lasted but how effective you lived. "People who live effectively never die because their footprint is never erased from the sand of time".
Death means nothing when life has served its original purpose
When you have done what you were born to do, it means that your life has served its original purpose in God's calendar and when your life has served its purpose, it doesn't matter how old you are, it is simply time to go. We so much desire to live that we forget the original essence of life.
The original tragedy is life without purpose
When a man dies, we often as the wrong questions. Questions like "why", "when" or "how" the person died. Those are the wrong questions, the right question is "why was he born". Why did God give you breath in the first place? Why did God choose you and why now? Why are you still breathing? These are the most important questions to ask because if at the end you did not complete the original essence of your existence, it doesn't matter if you lasted for a thousand years, your death is huge tragedy. You just contributed handsomely to the wealth of the cemetery.
It is not about how you died but how you lived
Most times we ask questions like "how did he die", because we have our own definition of tragedy in death. It doesn't matter what happens to your physical body, what matters is what you achieved with your physical body, how you used your physical body. The physical body is of the earth, no matter how a person dies, the physical body will still go back to where it belongs. It could burn, rot, disfigure or drown, it doesn't matter to God or the owner of the body. It only feels bad for those who are still alive.
