I was home all alone
When the doorbell rang
Outside was a pastor
Standing there
With backpacks for the children
Living down the hall
I wondered; did he really make
The wrong turn
Ring the wrong doorbell
The family - they weren't home
So I invited him in
To wait awhile with me
We chatted about
Nothing really
But there was something
To our meeting
Something changing
Inside me
I believed in God
Just not what the Pastor taught
But as the night grew dark
And we said our goodbyes
The Holy Spirit
Had other plans for me
I wondered if he really made
The wrong turn
Rang the wrong doorbell
Days and weeks went by
Curiosity surrounded me
I needed to search
Discover the truth
About this God he spoke about
I rummaged through books
Read the Word
Learned to pray; yet ...
Stayed stubborn in my own way
God's whisper grew
His pull was strong
To overcome my past, and
Leave my old faith behind
In silence I surrendered
To the plans he had for me
The plans I could have missed
Had I ignored; walked away
When God's messenger was
Standing at my door
