The words “God wants to re-produce Himself in you!” have affixed themselves to me. I have thought and prayed them through. I have taught them to the small body of believers which I have had the privilege of shepherding. I have shared them with friends over lunch, I have studied the Word of God to see if my experience is Biblical and, throughout this whole process, I have discovered truth I have never seen before.
My heart is to share this truth with you, giving you some practical ways in which you, too, can experience God, not in the same way that I did, maybe, but in a manner unique to you and according to your God-given birthright. God is God, you are you and “God wants to re-produce Himself in you!”
Of course, you are a different person than I am and you may experience God in a way I never did and maybe never will. Your revelation of God will involve either of many ways a person can know God. It might be visual, emotive, or aural. You may have a tremendous emotional experience or you may not. It might be that you are a cognitive person, needing to accumulate and processes things through study and analysis. Or you may be a “do-er” who relates to God and others through either doing something physical with your hands or involving yourself in some activity. Or you may be a philosophical person, being able to experience God through deep thought and reflection and by asking many questions. Whichever way He has created you, God will reveal Himself to you in that manner. A revelation of God will always fit your temperament.
Your experience will be unique to you. While others may look at you through their personality filter and not understand your experience, they will never grasp the deep and profound impact that God’s presence is having in your life. They will never really understand what is going on inside you because it will be unique to you. God is uniquely God and He is unique in His dealings with each of us. You are uniquely you and you will be unique in the way you experience God.
There’s no perceivable pattern in the way different people encounter God. One person will experience great joy, another will shed a lot of tears. One will dance, another will sit in stillness. One will express himself in a loud and boisterous manner, another will be impacted in a quiet way. One will be moved to increased activity, another will be moved to less flurry. One will become vocal in telling about their experience, others may keep it to themselves, enjoying God’s marvelous work in the quietness of their closet or away from the eyes of people.
For some, God’s work will involve a series of instant and dramatic events, while for others it will involve a long process of “milder” yet equally significant episodes. Some may need to be in the company of godly people, others may need to be alone. Some may need music, others may not. Some may wish to be in a church setting, others may prefer to be by the lake or in their back yard.
Wherever you are, whatever method you are comfortable with, and however your temperament is constructed, be assured of this: God will meet you there, in a time and in a manner wherein you will be absolutely convinced that it was God. He will meet you and He will meet you good!
In fact, He is there now, enveloped in all virtue and magnificence. He is there in glory and splendor - right there where you are. If you’ve already known a measure of His presence you will know it more fully. If this is new to you, just open up to Him. He’s there, He loves you and He desires to reveal Himself to you. He will be gentle too, really gentle, as in loving kindness and tender mercy He will draw close, impacting and changing you with His wonderful mercy and grace.
To be continued.
