PREVIOUSLY IN THE MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD REVISITED...
Gertrude tells the group about Philippe's hideout. They fly over to Paris and hide in the abandoned warehouse in which Philippe and his henchmen are planning to rob the cities of gold, but they are caught and captured, and Philippe confiscates Ben and Stephanie's bracelets because of the power the bracelets have to open the buildings to the cities of gold.
AND NOW...
Philippe and his henchmen threw the group into a dark prison cell. Philippe said with a menacing grin, "You can stay in here until we're done setting up our strategy to rob the cities of gold and I figure out a way to kill you all!" He and his henchmen laughed and walked away.
Stephanie buried her head in Ben's chest and started to cry. "Ben," she sobbed, "what are we going to do? Those awful men want to rob the cities of gold, and we're the only ones who know about it who would be able to stop them, but we're locked up and pretty soon we're going to die!"
Elizabeth also started crying and joined Ben and Stephanie in a group hug. "I know that when we die we'll be in Heaven with Jesus, but getting killed by bad guys was not the way I wanted to go!" she wailed.
Gertrude started to cry and leaned her head on Matthew's shoulder. "It's all over!" she moaned.
As Ben and Matthew tried to comfort the girls, Alexis also felt tears well up in her eyes. "Oh, Lionel, this is terrible!" she cried as she fell into her husband's arms.
Lionel and the boys also felt like crying, but they tried to be strong so they could comfort the woman and girls they cared about and be of encouragement. "We don't know what's going to happen for sure," Lionel said. "We don't know we're going to die for sure. Perhaps God will find a way for us to get out of here, like He provided a way for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to escape the fiery furnace and Daniel to escape the lions' den and Paul and Silas to get out of jail."
Alexis wiped tears off of her face. "You know something, you're right, honey," she said. "God is stronger than even horrible people like Philippe."
Ben gave Stephanie's and Elizabeth's shoulder a squeeze and kissed Stephanie's cheek. "He'll provide a way," he said. "I'm sure of it. We should all get in a circle and pray for a way out of here and for the protection of the people in the cities of gold." The group did exactly that.
A couple of hours passed, and a security guard who happened to be very gullible came to watch the group to make sure they did not escape. "This is the answer to our prayers," Ben whispered to his friends. "I'm sure it is." He turned to the security guard and said, "Excuse me, but we've been thinking. Maybe Philippe isn't so wrong to want to be rich. What's so wrong about wanting to scour the seven seas and collect a fortune? Getting rich quick isn't so bad. We actually were talking and deciding we were interested in getting rich quick, too. Maybe you could let us out so we could tell Philippe we've changed our minds."
"You changed your minds?" asked the guard.
"Well, yes," Stephanie said. "Why, if I were rich I could buy a beach house and have my own limo and chauffeur. I could even have my own yacht!"
"I could buy a large ranch!" Matthew cried.
"I could buy a mansion!" Elizabeth exclaimed.
"I could get even richer, and I do love money," Gertrude lied.
The guard believed everything they said. He fell for everything hook, line, and sinker and let them out.
The group walked out of the prison and back the way they had come. When they were out of the guard's earshot, Stephanie whispered, "Ben, you are such a genius!" She kissed him on the cheek and put her arm around his neck.
"Now we have to get our bracelets back," Ben whispered. They went to Philippe's office and found his bracelets on the table. Philippe wasn't there, so they got their bracelets, quietly climbed back up to the roof, got into the airplane, and flew off.
