Devotionals
Your embarrassing comments are hopefully few; we all wish we had left some things unsaid. We begin to blush and take sarcastic replies in stride. “Open mouth; insert foot.” Once said, we cannot take back remarks spoken in haste. The only graceful way out of the dilemma is to admit our blunders. It is embarrassing and humiliating but we should say we are sorry. I might promise myself that I'll never use hurtful words again.
It is not only in conversation that we err. Our own words snare us in money matters too. (Proverbs 6:1-5)“ My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, have given your pledge for a stranger; if you are snared in the utterance of your lips, caught in the words of your mouth, then do this, my son, and save yourself, for you have come into your neighbor’s power: go, hasten, and importune your neighbor (Proverbs 6:1-3 RSV).” Begging may derail bitterness. Open mouth; insert kindness.
