Encouragement
Reflections.
As the year 2013 draws to a close and a new year emerges, I find myself doing a lot of reflecting. It certainly has been by far the most challenging year of my life. It was really terrible for me and I wonder if 2014 is any different.
Will it bring happiness or sadness, illness or death? Will finances crumble or new opportunities emerge? While I cannot see into the future, at times I am thankful for this. If we knew what was in store for us, we will certainly be tempted to attempt to change our fate. This is not what God wants for us. There is a reason why we go through trials. All things come together for GOOD for them that love the Lord.
When our faith is tested, or trials attempt to engulf and overpower us, let us be sure that after we are tried by fire, we are refined. What does not kill us should not only make us stronger, but our faith in God should be reinforced. Our question should not be...’Oh Lord, why me?’ but rather, ‘Lord, how can I learn from this so others may benefit?’ Remember, God NEVER gives us more than we can bear. You can do it! With God, you are a whole lot stronger than you think!
At times our trials are not to help ourselves but to help others. How many of us have unsaved friends or family? By the way we handle our problems and challenges in life, we can sow the seed for someone to come to know Christ. Sometimes it is not the things we say, but the things we do that define us and impact upon others.
Let us make Christ proud of us in 2014. Let it be a year for Christians to reclaim our identity. Let us stand up for ourselves and resist the urge to conform to the world and take the easy way out. Let us always do the right thing in spite of how much it may negatively affect us. Let us reach out to people in need, not only in prayer, but in acts of kindness. Let us remind the world that there is a God and that He is making an impact on the way we live our lives. Let us never be afraid to stand up and be counted. To be different.
May God bless you all and best wishes for 2014.
