The Bible is clear that Jesus was born to save mankind. Traditonally His birthday has been commemorated every 25th December. However man has placed this date as a holiday- a time to buy presents, have feasts, drink too much, over indulge and take time off to spend with family and friends.
Not that this is a bad thing, but the true meaning of the day has been overlooked. Christmas should reflect as the day when Mary gave birth to a Special Child, wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. We should go back to why the Special Child was born.
Scripture says an angel visited Mary and told her she was to be pregnant with God's Child, whose primary purpose was to save men from their sins. He was born to reconcile men back to their Creator. He did not come in a fancy hospital nor did He get trained midwives to deliver Him. He came in the lowest part of the town, the least expensive birthplace. He came in humility.
Apostle Paul says He did not consider equality with God as something to be grasped. He came from a place of Glory, where streets are paved with gold, to be born in a manger. His birth day was the least celebrated by man, but heaven sent angels to announce it. Shepherds and wise men from the East are among those who paid homage to the new born King.
Jesus did not live in luxury but came to the poor, the despised, the looked down upon. He celebrated His birthday by telling people of the reason He came to earth- to be Lord and Savior.
Fast forward to this day. Men and women, boys and girls have taken meaning out of this day. We shower our loved ones with gifts. We have glorified Santa Claus over the Lord and Savior of mankind. We have commercialised Christmas to a glorified holiday and forgot why we celebrate the day. It's not about the Christmas trees or the gifts, Chrismas turkey or Santa. It is the Birthday of the Lord od lords and King of kings.
Christmas is the time to tell the next person that Jesus was born that they die no more, that thewy be not held back by the bonds of sin, that they are free because He was born to set captivity free.
Ladies and gentlemen, Christmas is not a holiday, it is the Birthday of the Highest. It is the time to reflect and say Jesus was born that I live. As we enjoy Christmas, tell someone about Jesus.
If you have never taken time to think about Christmas this way, why not start now? Tell someone God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to come and be born in this wicked world, live in it, die and be ressurrected that you and I die not but have everlasting life.
If you have never known Jesus as Lord and Savior say this prayer in faith:
Lord Jesus, I come before You realising that I am a sinner. This Christamas I ask you to forgive me all my sin, wash me now by Your precious Blood and make me Your child today. I open my heart as I receive You to come into my heart as Lord and Savior of my life. Thank You for making me Your child today. In Jesus' Name. Amen
As long as you prayed his in faith you are now a child of God. John 1v12 says to those who believed and received Him, He gave them the right and power to be called sons of God, born not of the will of man but of God.
Merry Christmas
