What it means to hasten unto thy coming
is a life lived worthy of the calling,
separated from the comfort; way beyond ambitions and dreaming.
A life lived like dying unto self is living
and rejoicing blooms fairest when in suffering.
Thy grace proved true to the lives of the saints
which you called from sin and the pit of shame.
"Take up your cross", thou hast bid.
The theme of dying to self they gladly have carried
that life of your son is lived.
Why a fearful spirit and a heart too frail?
Shun not your dark valley for His glory will reveal.
Why to the princely mansion shall we cling?
When God points us to the bush burning yet unconsuming
the Holy ground where we shall prostrate before Him.
Living a life we dream
craving for earthly wealth and fame
is way far from the context of the Hope
which is beyond now and
above what's seen and dreamt.
Knowing Jesus is not always through the calm
but trusting Him to save us from floods which drown.
He's the peace in the storm.
He's the Master in your inner room.
He's the quite place to rest when all the world will mourn.
What peace and sweet assurance
that endures through the war.
Only but few are marching t'ward the city, band gathered from afar
men who lived like the revered saints
looking forward to the Promise that awaits.
The days spent in the earthly plain chasing
for things that leave us worn and grieving.
Why so much idle and barren, no time for serving
when days are few, and moments fleeting?
How many a sacrifice would count to Him as pleasing?
When from devoting life to the Lord, evil bids us stop
See what lies yonder, work for the rewards laid up
Gladly choosing what is Lasting
With Him who dwells from everlasting to everlasting
in which days are not numbered; and delights unending.
