Woman – God’s Gift To The World
At Last....my love has come along.
Woman – when all else was created, when everything looked perfect, God said that there was still something missing. In Adam dwelt God’s courageous, heroic strength – protector, provider, heart of a rescuer. But there was a side of God that was not yet expressed on the earth. So He created woman out of the rib of man and brought her to him completing the picture of God. His image was fully present in His creation represented in two human beings.
What did He say about Himself in woman that he did not say completely in man? Within her lay the beauty of the Holy One, the heart for sharing the deep bonds of relationship and the mystery of a multi-faceted jewel.
Can you imagine the scene?? God must have been so excited to show Adam what He had made for him. Adam had been lonely - totally fulfilled, but lonely. There wasn't anyone that could meet his need for love and companionship. I am certain that the animals were different than they are now and gave as much as they could but they weren't like him.
So God, as only God can, put him to sleep and didn't tell him a thing! He crafted and designed another being similar but entirely different. All of the animals had been created male and female so He must have had the idea in mind all along. But this one...... Whew! This one topped them all - she is referred to as "the crowning glory of all creation".
Can you hear the conversation?
"Adam - wake up."
Adam stirs and opens his blurry eyes, "What?"
"Wake up - I have something for you. I made you something."
Adam stretches out his muscled arms and slowly sits up. "What kind of sleep was that? I had the strangest dreams." He turns and looks at His Maker with a suspicious look. "Did you do that? What are You up to?"
God smiles broadly not able to contain His excitement. He looks like a small boy with a treasure to show. "Come on - I have a gift for you - and you are going to love it!!" He starts off down the path signaling for Adam to follow. The perfectly formed man gets up, still a little groggy, and follows.
God leads him into an opening in the trees, a place that Adam loves to visit and soak up the warmth of the sun. All around is a deeply green forest that plays soft music as it sways in the gentle breezes of Eden. Tiny flowers in brilliant patches of blues and reds and golds grow in natural beds interspersed in the rich green carpet of grass.
Standing in a sunny patch, his Maker beckons him to come closer. Putting His hand on Adam's shoulder, He leans in and says in a voice almost like a whisper, "Now look over there." He points to a place a few feet away where two tall trees shade another walk way.
Adam squints hard to see what he should be looking at. God calls, "Come!"
Out steps a figure that instantly takes Adam's breath away. It's a creation, yes. One similar to him standing upright with two legs, two arms, a face the same shape and features as his but that is where the similarity ends.
His eyes grow large as his brain tries to take in what he is seeing. She is entirely smooth and her skin looks silky. Her body is so different than his but he likes it. For the first time, he feels a desire to put his arms around her as he has never felt toward any other of all of God's amazing animals.
What should he do? Does it talk? Should he approach it? The creature looks as uncertain and confused as he feels.
Adam tears his gaze away to glance curiously at God, "How...?" is all he can get out.
God slaps him on the back and says, "I used your rib, Adam - I made her from your rib! She is a part of you and belongs with you!"
A hoot of laughter from God breaks the tension as He tugs Adam toward the new being. Taking the hand where even the fingers are softly contoured, He puts it in Adam's.
A connection takes place instantly for in Eden, there are no barriers of any kind. Immediately, they know each other yet realize there is so much more to explore. Eve's face lights up with a smile that sets Adam's world on fire! And he is smitten totally and completely and forever!
"Wow! Wow!" He shouts as he takes both of Eve's hands and dances her around the little grove. He lifts her up - she is so light - and swings her around amazed at the feel of her, the look of her, the way his heart is filled to overflowing with a joy he has never yet known. This is the answer! This is the missing piece that he had so longed to know even in the midst of perfection.
"At last! Bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. We will call you "woman" because you have been taken from my rib."
He sets her down, suddenly in awe. Still holding her smaller hands captive in his large ones, he finds himself mesmerized by her beautiful eyes. They reveal a depth of knowledge and wisdom and heart that are like his own but shaped differently - just like her fascinating body. In that moment, he knows that he is going to see life differently from now on. There are now three perspectives, three hearts - the Makers, his and, it was a precious word, hers.
Looking around, wanting to somehow express his gratitude to the One Who did this, He realizes that the Maker has gone. And something else he realizes is that he is no longer lonely without Him right there.
Thus begins the story of woman. That's you - you are the crowning glory of creation. Every woman since Eve holds within herself that beauty, that depth of heart and relationship, that mystery and fascination. You reflect Your creator. Even still. Even now.
Let that sink into your heart. Let it shine there for awhile. And then let yourself live out of that knowledge. You will never be the same.

Perhaps you can help me. I have been trying to locate the verse(s) in the Bible that call woman "the crowning glory of creation". I can't help but imagine there are others who would like to see that verse as well.
