Storms of life are unavoidable, every one of us is bound to face storms and challenges in one form or the other! Even as believers, God never promised to shield us from storms but His firm promise is to keep us through them! When storms of life arise and blow against us from every direction, it is important we discover the secrets of staying afloat so as to enable us survive and smile at the storms.
One major secret of staying afloat in the midst of storms is having a firm foundation. What becomes of you when storms of life arise is largely determined by the kind of foundation your life is built upon. Unfortunately many people care less about building solid foundations; their lives are built on faulty foundations, and as a result find it difficult to stand in the days of severe trials and storms. Storms are bound to arise, but if our marriages, homes, careers, ministry and other pursuits are built on foundations of righteousness, we can be sure that God Almighty will be there to stand by us in the midst of storms. Never build your life on lies and falsehood, God will never support anything built on the foundations of unrighteousness!
Another secret to stay afloat and smile at the storms is to be sure that your pursuits align with the perfect will of God. If your pursuits perfectly agree with God’s will, God does not have any reason not to stand by and support you when challenges or storms arise. If you’re driving in the wrong direction, God is not likely to ride with you! You must learn to do only that which God blesses rather than expecting God to bless what you are doing! You can have the assurance that you’re not alone, only when you are riding in the same direction with God.
To stand firm through storms, you must understand that storms are not meant to drown you. God’s desire for His children is to make them stronger and better as they rise through storms of life. This understanding is very important because it will inject you with the positive spirit and courage to stand when others are caving in. When you are in the midst of storms and challenges, you must always see yourself at the end of it, never see or accept defeat.
Finally, you must learn to speak to the storms. Just as Jesus arose and rebuked the storm in Mark 4:37-39, you must exercise your faith by commanding the storms to be still. But it is important to mention that the storms will not obey your command if you do not have relationship with the Master of the storms! What gives you authority to bid storms to cease is your relationship with God. In the midst of storms and challenges of life, your relationship with God remains the bedrock; if your relationship with God becomes shaky, your life can never be balance! It does not matter what you’re going through, let nothing affect your relationship with God then YOU CAN SMILE AT THE STORMS!
