Psalm 119.83
The dead shall live
"Though I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget Your statutes" [Psalm 119.83 NASB]
While captives in the city of Babylon in the 6th century, Daniel's three believing friends were thrown into the midst of the fiery furnace, at that time, they may have had similar feelings to what David felt here. For they were experiencing a severe time of affliction in which they were tormented physically and mentally.
Why? What had they done wrong? Nothing. They had been slandered and wrongly accused by their contemporaries. Has this ever happened to you? It also happened to the Lord [Romans 15.3].
Do you feel that your life is being consumed day by day and you have nothing to show for all your prayers, labours and tears? At this time you may be wondering, "where is the purpose I once thought I had? Where have all my dreams and desires gone?" - and your sober answer is, "devoured by vanity".
Have you sunk to the place when you genuinely think everything is against you? Do you feel broken, useless and discarded? David needed, and maybe you do also, a fresh word from the Lord?
Even though it is very difficult to do at certain times, it is extremely beneficial to remember that God's grace, faith and hope always accompany His word. Therefore He has everything you need - and in abundance.
It was at the hottest point in the furnace when the Word made flesh appeared to the three saints, and it was at the most dark and extremely hopeless place ever created that the Spirit of life and hope came to where the Lord was. He has been where you are before you and shattered its power.
Every one of those concerned arose and moved into a new physical and spiritual dimension. Therefore, disregard completely how you feel and remember the word of the Lord is Spirit and life.
Therefore, He will quicken your spirit man and impart life to every area, which you have testified to everyone is dead and gone. With reference to God's opinion, it is good to be wrong! [David McArdle]
