Sermon Exodus 16:16-24, Heb 11:1, Mt 6:19
The ability of man to trust in God as Always-On-Time is an important yet rare aspect in living the christian life. While many people love the blessings of God,they cannot sleep without them, yet expecting in the morning (even though they are for the morning). They would rather sleep with the blessings already stacked in their back yard. That way they can 'trust' in the Lord.
I like the fact that the life of Christ has made everything to be neither called 'good' or 'bad'. Rather, somethings are personally better than others! Because there is not under this earth a time one can purely say i know that what this man is doing is not of faith. (note, i acknowledge 1 Cor 8:8)
Having said this, we now know that the children of God, the Israelites, those who collected more manna than they needed for the day, neither did 'wrong' nor 'good', but would it not have been better had they collected enough for that day and trust the supply of God for the following day. Yet because of a lingering unbelief in their hearts, they 'wasted' (though God's supply cannot be finished).
I like the fact that Paul later talks about this in his letters, mentioning the need for being content. You will care to know that Jesus Christ our Lord also mentioned this (Mt 6:19). He said make sure you treasure in the things of Heaven. What are these things that we can treasure?
Trusting in the Lord is an example. You will find that had the Israelites treasured 'trusting in the Lord', they would not have had some of the manna rotting away. We as christians, by the word of our Lord Jesus Christ, should understand that our strong room is in heaven.
It is a wonderful feeling sleeping with nothing, yet waking up feeling blessed. In my country, things are not economically ok, but sometimes i wake up to favors unseen. Free rides, paid lunch, invitations to dinner, gifts and friendship. I guess what reduces these blessings in our lives is that whenever we know where these things are collected, we try to stock up more for tomorrow.
If we pray to be content, and never tresure any earthly thing, be it money in the bank, bread for tomorrow, clothes for christmas, fuel for the week, water for the tanks and those little things that make us forget that God is a daily supply to us just as much as he supplies the birds of the air, we will be content and ready to receive Just-In-Time blessings.
Just-In-Time blessings are a suprise to the enemy; he cannot steal those from us because most of the time they are safely stacked in heaven. You will find that robberies mostly happen when we pile loads of things in our 'secure' backyards etc. But there is no place as secure as the places of God(Rev 12:5). No fight takes place there!
Manna rotted for those who had more than enough! Those who left their share for tomorrow in the safe hands of God still had theirs safe and sound. This is why many have come to the conclusion that being poor is better than being rich. Because there is less stored here on earth for the poor than for the rich.
I love this saying about contentment that says,
"A poor man is one who has just-enough for that particular moment, a rich man is one who piles up for tomorrow, while a fool dwells much on what he had yesterday."
God bless you, In Jesus Christ's name. Amen
