In 2Chronicles 29:1-12 we see King Hezekiah repairing the temple of the Lord, ordering for its consecration and getting rid of all the defilement from the sanctuary. Hezekiah stood in the gap for the children of Israel after their fathers did evil in the eyes of the Lord. In the same way, God has called us to stand in the gap for those that we may know are not born again, those that need breakthroughs, our families or for others still who may need intercession in prayer. Our God is God of order and He is willing to help us put things in order if we ask this of Him. When things are therefore not in order, there are certain issues we must address.
Firstly is to realize that there is a problem. In life, the very first step towards helping straightening out any issue is to acknowledge it. In the first month of the first year of his reign, Hezekiah opened the doors of the temple and repaired them. In 2Chronicles 29:6 we see him acknowledging the idolatrous nature of his people. Despite coming from this background, Hezekiah decides to follow the Lord God. It really does not matter where you come from; you may be from a background of people who have never even made it to the University but you could be the one that will change the history of your family. You may be from a family that only seems to register failure in whatever they partake but you could be the one who was born to change this situation. Hezekiah could have chosen to continue with his peoples’ worship of idols but he chose to be different; 2 Chronicles 29:2 says- ‘he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David had done’. It is worth remembering therefore that it is never too late to make a decision to be different.
Secondly, when things are not in order, take a step and do something about it. There may be things that will need to first be put to order for this to happen and since we are the ones who have noted the problem, then we must be willing to do first things first. Hezekiah commanded that all defilement be removed from the sanctuary before any sacrifices carried out for the Lord. We too are being looked upon to provide direction in our homes, our families, our marriages and our work places in order to right the wrongs that have been going on for a long time. Our God is mighty and we must walk in spiritual discipline and be the people that walk the talk. We should not compromise in any way in our course. When we do not walk in spiritual discipline, we will be shaken, but if we do, God will certainly come through for us.
Thirdly, we must be people who worship God without restraint; His presence should never be taken for granted. It does not matter who is watching or what they might have to say about what we are doing for God. When we need to put things in order in our lives, then this is certainly not the time to be shy with God. He is a just and willing partner, He will listen when we call out to Him without restraint; God loves it when we worship Him. When Peter and Silas were imprisoned, they got down to praising and worshiping the Almighty God and the gates of prison were opened in a mighty way!
Fourthly, the devil will not be happy about your decision to make things be in order because he is a lover of disorder and bondage. His joy is in seeing you bound and as far away as possible from what God wants of you and your life. But God will come through for you supernaturally. 2Kings 18:7 tells us how God was with Hezekiah as he partook to putting things in order for His chosen people. You too should be strong and of courage because He who is in you is greater than any powers outside of you. Hezekiah encouraged his people in this way in 2Chronicles 32:7-‘be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him’.
God came through for Hezekiah, He will most certainly come through for you. You are that important to Him.. So, just do it, put things in order
