For God . . . Will conceal me in the cover of his tent; and set me high upon a rock.
Psalm 27:5

Reflection

When we realize God is inside of us, there is a wonderful sense of security. We know that, no matter what happens in life, or what anyone might say about us, that our loving God is present. Mean words or actions don’t hurt us as much, because we are in God’s tent. God has covered us with love and understanding. We can realize that we are God’s beloved son or daughter. There is a passage in the Bible that says, “If God is for us who can be against us?”

Once we realize this, we can rise above the
worries and problems we face. As the Psalm says, He will “set me high above a rock.” Many people doesn’t seem to understand the mentally ill people with whom I work, and some may even be afraid of them. Many times, these patients will talk to me about their faith. I don’t talk about my faith very much, because I don’t want to influence them in any way from following their path of belief. I mainly listen and encourage their own faith in God. These individuals almost always say how God has helped them through hard times and express the love they feel. They have deep faith and are grateful for what God has given them.

This is a profound example of how God has set them high upon a rock. In society’s eyes, people who come to our program may not be thought well of, but they are viewed lovingly through God’s eyes. I believe the members in our program are well aware of that.
