Every body wants God’s blessings, it’s amazing how people shout on top of their voices when a man of God pronounces the blessings of God upon them, I have a colleague who feels good whenever one of our colleagues who is a pastor tells her ‘God bless you:,
Quite interesting, you are absolutely right, who doesn’t want God’s blessing? It’s obviously everybody’s heart desire to be blessed of God. A man of God once said something that torched me, his words “ We all pray and claim Abraham’s blessings, but how many of us can give what Abraham gave, how many of us can sacrifice something so precious to us to God as he did, but we all claim His blessings” he went further to say that “ your own Isaac might not be in form of your only child, it could be your life, your time, your resources, your business, it could be to give up that thing that distracts your attention from Him, it could be anything, if God comes to ask, will you be willing to give Him”? But you crave for His blessings.
It is worthy of note here that God’s blessings are conditional, from the beginning of creation; God’s dealing with people has always been on certain conditions sometimes the parties involved have prior knowledge of the condition while in some cases he doesn’t inform you about it until you obey or otherwise.
God told Abram to leave his fathers land to an unknown and strange land, that he was going to bless him in the process, Abraham obeyed without questioning God’s directive, But the condition was “Abram, you must leave where you are to get to where I am taking you” (Gen.12:1-2). Funny enough most of us want God’s blessing but we are not ready to obey in order to have the promised blessing. God promised to bless Abraham but the promise was solidified when the big test came and Abraham passed. He gave his only son; imagine the one that the same God gave him, if it were some of us we would find one thousand and one reasons why it could not be God speaking.
The widow of Zarephath had to give something to the man of God and the bin of her flour did not run dry until it was time for God to send rain, that singular obedience actually brought double blessings, her dead son was raised from death. (I Kings 17:8-24). What are you willing to give God in order to get the promised blessing, the fact is, blessings have been promised, but there are conditions attached to having them.
God gave His Son, that IF you receive Him as your Lord and saviour, you will not perish but have everlasting life, Yes! God’s blessings are conditional –we call it “Divine bargain”, IF you do this, I will do my part.
You want God’s blessings? Then play your part, I tell you God will definitely play His, He is faithful, who has promised and will do it.
Shalom!
