Ever feel like when you became a Christian you should have been given an “immunity shot” against the bad stuff? Well, we were not. God is truly not a respecter of persons even when it comes to the bad stuff.
My mother was a staunch believer in Milk of Magnesia and Vick’s Salve. In fact, if those two medicines couldn’t cure whatever you had, you’d just better not get sick. She would invariably say, “this is good for you, You’ll feel much better once you take it.” How could anything so nasty be “good for me”? I have swallowed many a ‘finger full” of Vick’s Salve. As an adult I finally read on the jar that it was for external use only. Oh well, mama, I did get better!
Dear one, when bad stuff comes into the life of a Christian, it is hard to understand how in the world it can make us better. We are even called upon to “swallow” a lot of things that are unpalatable to us. Can we not hear God saying, “Beloved, this will be good for you…in the long run”. He allows things to come into our lives that are not necessarily of His creation, but He will take it and weave it into something for our ultimate good. Never-the-less, we must admit some things are hard to swallow.
Belonging to Jesus is the highest calling of all. There is no greater calling on earth or in heaven. His purpose is perfect. Let me add here a wonderful word from The Word; “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings.” Philippians 2:13-14
