Missions
The word "Missionary" has been a frequently used word in my vocabulary since I was ten years old. However, the meaning of it didn't come alive to me until my freshman year of high school.
Every year my home church takes a missions trip to Tecate, Mexico during spring break. It was 2007, the first year I was eligible to go on the mission trip. I approached it with an open heart and mind and I couldn't wait to see what God had in store for me in the upcoming week. Little did I know, He was going to lay something on my heart far greater than I ever imagined.
As I came home from my week in Tecate, I knew if I was to ever become a missionary, I wanted to go to Mexico. I began praying and hoped that possibly after college God would give me the opportunity to fulfill my dream to serve Him in the country He had laid on my heart. However, God had other plans. He was already working.
Just two short months later, my parents asked me what I thought if our family became missionaries in Autlán, Jalisco, Mexico. When they told me this news, my emotions overflowed. I told them about my dream to be a missionary in Mexico and we instantly knew it was God's will. In December of 2007, nine months after I went to Tecate, our family became full time Missionaries in Autlán.
We've now been in Autlán two years and God has faithfully guided me and strengthened my faith as I serve Him here. I'm incredibly thankful that God's plans are bigger than my own. Thankful that if I simply dream big like Nehemiah when he desired to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, the results will be far greater than I have ever imagined. Seeing God work in not only my life, but also in the lives of the people here is amazing, and there is no greater joy than knowing that I'm impacting the kingdom of Heaven by serving God here in Mexico.
