The other day my dear husband asked me where I wanted him to put the box of salt----back in the pantry or in up in a cabinet near the stove. I told him it did not really matter, but to just go ahead and put it in the cabinet near the stove. He stood right there and said, "well, it really isn't enough room in the cabinet, so I will put it in the pantry."
I chuckled. Of course he asked me why I was laughing.
I proceeded to tell him that that had been at least the 3rd time that day that he asked me what to do and then he did the exact opposite of what I said!
On this day I laughed. But the day before, when he did it --- I did not laugh. I got mad. Really mad. Of course my sweet ,dear husband was off doing some "man thing" outside while I was in the house talking to God about his "child that gets on my nerves".
I mean, WHAT IS THE POINT OF ASKING ME ,IF HE IS GOING TO JUST TURN AROUND AND DO WHAT HE WANTS? WHY BOTHER TO ASK?
As I continued to walk around and do housework, my Father, my heavenly Father, asked me the SAME question.
What is the point of asking me what to do , if you are just going to do exactly what you want?
What is the point of reading my WORD everyday and then living as if you don't know what it says?
What is the point of us meeting early every morning , and having a wonderful time of fellowship, when the rest of your day is spent thinking and acting like you don't know me?
What is the point?
Ouch.
I am saved. I am filled with the Holy Ghost. I love God. But some of my fruit is rotten.
Galatians 5:22- 23 says: But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. ( NLT)
Ouch. So, if the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit, that means that they are in me. I have the capacity for all of these fruit to be in full bloom, ready to pick and enjoy. But instead, I have let some of my fruit rot. While I was busy tending to what I deemed the important fruits---love , joy, peace, faithfulness, etc. the "lesser" fruits like GENTLENESS AND PATIENCE were left unattended where they fell to the ground, rotten and no good.
And the evidence of that rotten fruit was my little temper tantrum with my daddy. I did not cultivate gentleness and patience , so when it was time to use that fruit (with my sweet husband), I did not have any.
So I have to ask myself--why do I read my Word to find out how to have gentleness and patience and then do the exact opposite?
Thank you Jesus for your grace and mercy. And just as I chuckled at my husband for doing the opposite of what I said, I can imagine all of heaven having a good laugh at me sometimes.
