Oh, I am a hearty pirate bold,
I sail the seas in a quest for gold--
Through sun and wind, heat and cold;
Yo, ho, yes, I'm a pirate bold!
T'was at an inn a tale was told,
About a chest that was full of gold,
On an island where the sea-birds scold--
Where lightning flashed and thunder rolled,
Ah, ha! To me a map was sold!
I sailed my ship to where I was told,
A chest awaited full of gold,
I dug through layers and piles of mold
And pulled it up, of wealth untold--
At last! I found the gold!
The lock I smote sevenfold,
Until it broke--at last, the gold!
But when I looked inside, I found no gold;
Instead a paper I did unfold--
And it said thus:"Thou fool, there be no gold!
A false map to you has been sold,
Bad luck to you as you grow old--
And rot away to dust and mold."
As I read this, my heart grew cold,
I swore that I would find some gold,
Back home, the one to me the map had sold
Soon lay in the grave, dead and cold;
And I for the map got back my gold.
For I'm a wicked pirate bold!
