We have heard it said that, ‘it is wiser to listen more and speak less’
The words that we speak carry a lot of weight and are measured as we disperse them
How then do we measure each word before it is sent forth to impact lives around us?
With this in mind, let us imagine ‘the tongue as a power tool’
When you are in a company of people or even in an unguarded/emotional moment, do you go-to-town with the words that you have mastered?
The Bible has so much to say about the tongue, that little member which is so small but oh, so powerful, dividing and destroying whole nations when used without caution.
WE ARE TOLD:
• There is foolishness in a multitude of words,
• Be quick to listen and slow to speak
• The fool SAYS in his heart, there is no God
In every way we learn that it is advisable to caution the tongue whilst in use and to be wise in counsel.
The best illustration is that of A TOOL IN USE----a ruler for instance, is used to measure a piece of wood needed for furniture, for example,
after the measuring stage, next comes the saw which will be used to cut, once this is done we no longer have the chance to go back and measure again as the process has gone into a defined stage so it is advisable first to make sure that the measurements are accurate before the wood is CUT.
This is similar to our thought process—THINK BEFORE YOU TALK; prayerfully consider a situation before you make a contribution, even in a heated emotional state
Sometimes some words are not even said in anger but in envy and jealousy, in instinctive competitive spirit, in prejudice, in myopic mind-set/cultural thought process, in sorrow, in severe pain and at times in sickness, we just want others to suffer along with us for no wrong doing or fault of theirs.
This all boils down to immaturity of body, soul and spirit!
Especially in conversations we are admonished to be better listeners than talkers, some people can not just hold their peace in any conversation, they always interrupt others, either to get a word or two in also or so as not to forget a quick point or in outright disregard for anyone else, but, God means well for us when he says, “Think before you talk!”
God can not be wrong; he gives us commands and advice, all for our own good.
Once too often we hurt the people we love with our unguided and unguarded use of words, when we are angry we speak words that hurt deep and cut through bone, marrow and even divide blood and water asunder.
Words are like eggs, once broken can NEVER be patched up to look like new again!
Resolve this day as we step into a new year in another decade to, SPEAK WORDS THAT EDIFY, WORDS THAT ENCOURAGE, WORDS THAT COMFORT, and WORDS OF SUPPORT AND OF LOVE.
SPEAK WORDS THAT EVEN THE WORD OF WORDS, JESUS CHRIST WILL BE PROUD THAT YOU ARE OF HIS FOLD!
