Encouragement
A doctor would say that the heart is a muscular organ with four chambers. The upper chambers called atria and the lower chambers called ventricles.
However, the heart is not just a physical organ, but, a storehouse of complex emotions like love, faith, hope, pain, endurance and perseverance.
We all need God’s healing touch in our lives. After all, the most painful lesson in life is that of love.
But, when we experience this healing touch, the same love that hurts transforms into the most beautiful miracle of our lives.
The spiritual medicine needed in life is the powerful grace of God. It is this grace that helps us to bounce back when we are deeply hurt.
God is truly the Doctor of all doctors, the great and good physician.
He is the patient doctor listening to our woes in the confessional in the form of the priest.
He is the compassionate doctor who forgives our transgressions by pouring out his abundant mercy.
He is the comforting doctor in the Eucharist who heals our souls through his wounds.
He is the good shepherd tending to his flock just as a doctor tends to his patients.
He is the dedicated doctor always at our side with committed fervor just as a doctor is always there for his patients.
He is the intelligent doctor who has wise answers for all our solutions and highly efficient to cater to all our needs.
God, for whom we have the highest respect is an inseparable part of our lives just as doctors are an integral part of the patient’s life where they are held in high esteem.
We read in the book of Sirach (38:1) “Give doctors the honor they deserve for the Lord gave them their work to do. Their skill came from the Most High, and kings reward them for it. Their knowledge gives them a position of importance, and powerful people hold them in high regard.” (38:9) “When you feel ill, don’t ignore it. Pray to the Lord, and he will make you well.”
(38:12-14) “Then call the Doctor – for the Lord created him- and keep him at your side; you need him. There are times when you have to depend on his skill. The doctor’s prayer is that the Lord will make him able to ease his patient’s pain and make them well again.”
In this noble profession, a doctor’s caring touch can do wonders to a patient’s morale and speed up the recovery process. Similarly, God’s healing touch does marvels to our souls.
God works through the hands of the doctor. What better prayer can be said for someone who is ill or undergoing a surgery, than to ask Jesus to come personally and perform the surgery himself or to perform a miracle once more like he did at the pool of Siloam and grant complete healing to the patient.
So, let us always be joyful in the hope of recovery and allow the calm soothing touch of God to cure us in every possible way.
