It didn’t.
“The neighbors are already on the roofs now,” he thought, “Escaping the flood.” Floods happen every year, but not like this. It did not rise above the height of a man, and it did not take the lives of people. When the rains stop, there will be two bodies found.
His wife and two year old son.
He thought about all this, and sighed again. Then he spoke with a faint voice, but loud enough for him to hear it.
“God.”
He looked up, and he saw, embroidered on a sheet of cloth hanging before the family altar, a verse.
‘And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.’
“Well.” he said. Then he smiled.
He stood up and stretched. Climbing the roof will be hard.
