“Chris, how many times do I have to tell you I’m not going to the prom? For one you know I don’t have the money to go buy a dress, and secondly, you know the commitments I made to God to keep myself pure.”
“I know but why do you keep your guard up so much? Don’t you want to have some fun?”
“I do have fun just being with you.”
“You are not relaxed when you are with me, espically alone, and don’t you trust me? I will not hurt you. I love you.”
“I love you too. I trust you.”
“Then why don’t you want to go? You know we will only grow closer if we go to this.”
“Well…”
“Well?”
“I’ll talk to my family about it. I don’t think I can pay for anything fancy.”
“You’re going?” Chris sounding excited.
“Yes, if it’ll make you happy.” Stephanie smiles.
The bell rings and they have to go to class.
“I’ll see you after school sweetie!”
“Ok, handsome!”
Stephanie thinks about going throughout the whole day. During one of the projects in Chemistry, she talks to her friend Stacey to see what she should do about the situation.
“Stacey, what do you think me and Chris going to the prom together?”
“I thought you weren’t going.” Sounding surprised.
“I don’t know. I want to but I don’t at the same time.”
“Has Chris been bothering you about it?”
“Kinda, but not really. He’s so sweet about it. I’ll really feel bad if I don’t go…”
“Are you going because Chris wants you to?”
“Ummm, yes?”
“You should not go just for him. What about your friends that’ll be there? Will you actually talk to us at all?”
“Yes.”
“Cool, so you’re going?”
“I am.”
Later on that night Stephanie gets home and talks about how she wants to go to prom with Chris. Her parents are hesitant to let her go, but they finally cave and say she can. She goes out after church on Sunday to go buy a dress. Isn’t the most beautiful dress but its pretty in most people’s sight.
The week of prom her and Chris kept talking about prom and how fun it’s going to be. She knows she can’t back out of it now. She is getting more and more uneasy about the night. She’s learning how to be herself around Chris. She’s letting her guard down around him.
The night of the dance was finally here. She was so excited all day that she didn’t eat until the dinner before prom. Chris picked her up and he talked with her family for five minutes before they left.
When they got to the dance, it was beautiful. Walking up to hall was awesome. Lights were on both sides of the path, with white and pink rose peddles on the sidewalk. The hall was dimly lit. Some were dancing, others just hanging out talking.
Stephanie asked Chris, “What do you want to do?”
“I just want to be with you.”
He saw Stephanie was shivering so he gave her his coat. She leans against him.
“Do you want to go somewhere?” Chris asks
“I just want to be here with you, where ever you want to go, I’ll come too.”
“I’ll be right back, need to go to the bathroom.” Chris says.
“Alright.”
Stephanie goes to talk to her friends at the tables. They talk. So many people we so shocked about her being there. She said she was surprised for being there too. Chris comes back. He asks, “Do you want to dance?”
“Sure,” she said with a smile.
They go to dance, and she just melts in his arms. Never before did she feel so safe and secure. She wanted to stay like that forever. Later on after some of her friends decide they want to go to post prom, Stephanie and Chris decide to stay. They said we’d be there in a little bit. They start to dance so more. They start heading back to his car. And you can decide what happens next.
So often times we as Christians lower our standards and give in to things that we shouldn’t. We look past things God has told us to avoid. He says steer clear of places that could lead you to be tempted and eventually falling into sin.
