your parents are unfair,
with rules and regulations,
that drive you to despair.
You often think the friends you have,
go out and have more fun,
while you must see if they approve
and must ask Dad or Mum.
They want to know how long you’ll be
and where you want to go,
while all your mates do what they want,
their folks don’t even know.
Why do they care,when you don’t fit,
within your group of peers.
They always worry where you are
and think of all their fears.
You wish they’d see how far you’ve come.
Why won’t they let you go,
before your life has flown away,
and your friends don’t want to know?
They say they know just how you feel
and try to show they care
but life seems hard when you’re a teen,
you wonder if you dare.
For you have found you get in strife,
when you don’t go their way;
and though you may not understand,
you hope you will some day.
There is so much for you to choose,
now that you’re almost grown;
to find the partner of your choice,
have children of your own.
They’ll ask the questions as you do,
when they will face their fears.
You’ll understand the reasons why,
with the wisdom of your years.
