TITLE: Remembering Our Heroes

The world is full of people we consider to be heroes. They are all around us. The media portrays them as immortal beings; exempt from the commonalities of what we consider to be “life.” In fact, they are “larger than life” – athletes, movie stars, politicians, activists, and the list goes on. Our expectations of these “heroes” succeed the biblical warnings of God, as he tells us to “put your trust in no man” – eventually, they will let you down.

What does it profit to give so much of ourselves, our time, adoration, and yes, money to people whose minds are so far away from God? What lessons can they teach us about God? When you really need a word, what can you pull back from those proclaimed as “heroes” to get you through the day, the week, the month, - to heaven? When looking for a hero I am searching for someone who has, despite the odds accomplished tasks that many thought impossible. Their acts of bravery, faith, and obedience in God make all things possible.

Some examples of biblical heroes are:

Others from days long past, who praised God with thankful hearts because his presence was felt in the midst of adversities throughout their lives;

Paul and John the Baptist, who thought it for naught to give their lives for His precious message. They were persecuted for His sake, and counted it all joy. They show us that in this walk we will suffer, but in order to reign with Him we must suffer with Him;

Moses and Job, who reached out to God when others doubted His ability to deliver. They show us that through the most difficult times in our lives faith and listening to His voice are the only compasses needed;

Daniel, who prayed even when the enemy forbade him to do, so, He taught us that no one on earth, can separate us from the Lord;

David and yes, all the mistakes he made. He shows us that a sorrowful spirit and repentant heart are the things God looks for in His people.

Peter, who stepped out and began to walk on the water, He let’s us know that if God says we can, we can.

Hannah, who prayed within her soul so fervently, that God granted her request. She shows us what happens when we pray in our secret closet.

And most of all Jesus, whom God sent, so that we might have an inheritance with the Father. God shows us that when he gave his Son, whom he cherished and loved, his compassion and concern for this world is much more than we could ever imagine.

These are our true “Heroes.”
