I remembered you again in my dream.
I had only known you for a short time.
The year was 1943.
I remember, I wore a pretty blue dress.
With a gardenia in my hair.
I remember, soft music, and dancing.
While shimmery lights cast down upon us.
Your soft cheek touched mine.
I remember whispering.
"Please, don't go."
You pulled me close.
And gently whispered.
"I love you more than you will ever know."
Tears swelled in my eyes.
I wouldn't let them show.
All I could say was,
"Please......don't go."
You spun me around one last time.
"Wait for me.....be my wife when I return."
The music stopped.
Lights grew dem.
I remember saying the words over
and over again.
"Yes....I will be your wife. And I will
wait for you."
I remember your soft kiss.
The Ships horn echoed through
the night, beckoning you to a
place filled with hatred and fright.
I can still see your smile, as you
ran out that door, telling me, it will
only be for awhile.
Sixty-one years later.....I'm still waiting.
Sometimes, late at night, I put on my
pretty blue dress. With that dried out
gardenia in my hair, and I dance under the
shimmery stars.
I know you are never coming back.
But in my heart.....I will always be
waiting.
And in my dreams.....I dance with you.
